January 5, 2012 Anti-spam server problems Since January 1st, the College's Barracuda anti-spam server has been over-zealous in identifying messages as possible spam. Consequently, you may have noticed more messages than usual going into your spam quarantine. IT is working with the vendor to find a permanent solution to this problem. In the interim, they have instituted measures that should reduce this excessive quarantining. Also, we notified the community in October but want to remind you that it is still not possible to log in to the anti-spam server with a username and password. The only way to access your spam quarantine is by clicking one of the links in a recent Spam Quarantine Summary e-mail message. (You have to use a recent message because the links in them expire after 4-5 days.) You will receive a Spam Quarantine Summary e-mail message at approximately 1:00-2:00 a.m. each day if there are messages in your quarantine. If there is nothing in your quarantine at that time, you will not receive a message that day. We recommend keeping your last Spam Quarantine Summary e-mail message in case you need to access your quarantine before the next one arrives. IT has asked the vendor to resolve this login problem, but we do not yet know if they will do so. If it does get resolved, we will let you know. As always, if you have any questions, contact the Help Desk at helpdesk@snc.edu, http://www.snc.edu/service, or xHELP (4357). -- Technology Support Services -- helpdesk@snc.edu http://www.snc.edu/techsupport/ 920-403-HELP (4357) Security Tip: Never share your password or login information with anyone, ever.
