May 11, 2008 Hoax E-mail We've received a number of queries about a new e-mail "phishing" scam that's currently going around. "Phishing" is an attempt to acquire login, financial, or other personal information by sending e-mail that appears to come from a reputable source. In this case, the intention of the message is to get your login id and password so your e-mail account can be used to send spam. The message has the subject: Account Upgrade and comes from St. Norbert College WebMail Service The message asks for Login ID and Password and threatens to terminate the e-mail account if the recipient does not reply. This did NOT come from St. Norbert College - it appears to have originated in Australia. We would never solicit personal information in this way. Please do NOT respond to this query if you receive it. If you received this query and DID reply, please change your password IMMEDIATELY because your account has been compromised. If you do not change your password, your account may be used to send spam and cause St. Norbert College's e-mail addresses to be blacklisted. If you have questions about this or if you are ever unsure about the legitimacy of an e-mail query, please call the College's Technology Support Help Desk at xHELP/4357 or send e-mail to helpdesk@snc.edu . -- Information Technology -- it@snc.edu http://www.snc.edu/it/ 920-403-3873 (phone) 920-403-HELP/4357 (Help Desk) 920-403-4084 (fax) If you have any questions, please call the Tech.
