July 14, 2008 Warning: Another Phishing Expedition We are seeing another example of an e-mail "phishing" scam that's currently going around. "Phishing" is an attempt to acquire login, financial, or other personal information by sending e-mail that appears to come from a reputable source. It may result in identity theft or unauthorized use of e-mail accounts. In this case, the message has the subject: "Confirm Your School Webmail Account Details" and the message comes from "emailtechsupport@mail2webmaster.com". The message asks for webmail id, password, and date of birth, and threatens to terminate the e-mail account if the recipient does not reply. There may be variations in the wording of the subject or the from address. This did NOT come from St. Norbert College. We would never solicit personal information in this way. Please do NOT respond to this query if you receive it. If you received this query and did reply, please change your password IMMEDIATELY and contact our Help Desk. The last time one of these went around, several people on campus responded and their e-mail accounts were hijacked and used to send spam, and the St. Norbert College e-mail address was temporarily blacklisted.
