September 16, 2009 Please ignore Upgrade Your Account request Another phishing message targeting the College began showing up overnight last night. It tells you that we are performing maintenance on your Zimbra account and that you must reply with your User Name and Password to complete the process. The subject reads "***Upgrade Your Account***". This message is a scam. If you received it, please do not respond. If you did respond, please change your password immediately and contact our Help Desk at 920-403-4357. You may not have seen this because our antispam software has begun trapping it in its quarantine. Remember: you never need to wonder whether these messages are legitimate. They're not. Ever. We never ask for personal information via e-mail. Particularly if you are asked to send your password via e-mail, the answer is: just don't do it! For more information on phishing, please read the following web page: http://www.snc.edu/techsupport/docs/phishing.html Thank you for all of you who pointed this message out to us and indicated that you recognized it as a scam and did not respond. We hope that soon we will no longer need to warn you about these messages - that you will recognize them and ignore them as an unfortunate fact of life. If you ever wonder about one of these messages and think that they might be legitimate (they won't be), please call our Help Desk before responding. Note, too, that there is another scam running around about overpayment of taxes to the IRS. Please ignore that one, also. -- Information Technology -- it@snc.edu http://www.snc.edu/it/ 920-403-3873 (phone) 920-403-HELP/4357 (Help Desk) 920-403-4084 (fax) Follow SNC I.T. on Twitter: http://twitter.com/sncit If you have any questions, please call the Tech.
