Recent network issues

As most of you already know, the College has been experiencing ongoing problems with the shared network storage drives (J:, G:, M:, and I:) and network printing. The servers that operate these services are having temporary failures, resulting in them periodically going down and coming back up. We realize these disruptions are inconvenient and frustrating, and we are working to find and resolve the problem as quickly as possible.

The long-term solution to these problems is moving the College's computer network from the old Novell NetWare system to the new Microsoft Active Directory system, which we told you about last month. We are currently in the process of visiting every College-owned computer to implement this change. As soon as this is complete, we will move the shared network drives to the new Active Directory system, and eliminate the old Novell system entirely. We expect this project to be completed this summer.

In the meantime, we suggest that anyone who needs access to crucial materials at a specific time, such as during a class or presentation, copy those files to a flash drive or other portable device beforehand, just in case the network drives are not available at that time.
