Note: Although you should never have more than one anti-virus program on a computer at the same time, it is okay - recommended, actually - to have more than one anti-spyware program. For more information, see the Spyware, Viruses, & other computer problems page.

Microsoft Security Essentials
Microsoft Security Essentials is a free anti-virus and anti-spyware program. It is required for student-owned Windows computers on the SNC network, and recommended for other home computers running Windows.

Malwarebytes
To get the free version, click the "Download now" button. This may take you to another site, where you may need to click another Download button or link.

SUPERAntiSpyware
To get the free version, click on the "Download SUPERAntiSpyware FREE Edition" link under "Popular Links" (near the bottom).

Ad-Aware
To get the free version, click the "Download Free" button, then click the Download button on the left (you do not need to fill in your personal information on the right).

SpyBot - Search & Destroy
Scroll down to the "Download" section, click on Spybot - Search & Destroy, then click on any of the"Download here" buttons.

SPSS (login required)

Current St. Norbert College faculty, staff, and students are eligible to install SPSS on personal computers that they use for College-related work. These are ISO files that can be downloaded onto a Macintosh computer and installed, or used to burn a Windows installation disk. Please see the SPSS handouts for detailed installation and licensing instructions.

Google Chrome is another free web browser.

Adobe Reader & Flash Player
Adobe Reader is a free program used for for viewing and printing PDF documents.

WinSCP (Windows)
WinSCP is a file transfer program that can be used to transfer files between your computer and a remote server, such as the portfolios or coursework servers, and also supports SFTP for transferring files to/from the professional home page server.

Cyberduck (Mac)
Cyberduck is a file transfer program that can be used to transfer files between your computer and a remote server, such as the portfolios or coursework servers, and also supports SFTP for transferring files to/from the professional home page server.

General (non-SNC) download sites

All of these sites offer large collections of software, shareware, and freeware for all popular operating systems as well as handheld devices. The software is arranged by category, and generally includes descriptions, technical information, and reviews or ratings.
