The Innovation Studio at St. Norbert College is designed to support the use of technology in the teaching and learning environment of the College. In the studio, you can:
- learn about technology
-
experiment with technology
|
- brainstorm about ways to enhance teaching and learning with technology
-
get help when you are implementing technologies
- view an ever expanding list of resources that can assist you as you expand the use of technology in your teaching.
|
Because the Innovation Studio supports teaching and learning, the primary - but not exclusive - users of the facility are College faculty members. We're here to discuss educational uses of technology and help you
identify and implement technologies in the teaching and learning
process. Users of the Innovation Studio can attend a workshop, schedule a 1 to 1 training session, or just drop-in during our open hours. We can also visit you in your office, and we'll even come to your class and teach your students about a particular technology you're planning to use.
Technologies
We support a variety of technologies such as Windows and Macintosh computers, smartboards, scanners, Microsoft Office, Moodle (learning management system), personal or department web pages, and various web 2.0 technologies. We also have a document camera, microphone, wireless keyboard, and one computer with a dual-monitor setup. SMART Sync software is also installed so you can learn how to control and view student workstations during a class. In addition, the Innovation Studio includes a teaching podium where you can learn how to manage and control the audio/visual equipment before using it in your classroom.
If you are interested in experimenting with technologies that we don't
have, we'll try to get the technology for you to use.
As you work with the various technologies on campus, don't forget about the many instructional handouts that are available from Technology Support Services.
User Groups
The Innovation Studio sponsors several user groups. The groups are:
- Moodle User Group: The Moodle user group is open to anyone who teaches with Moodle. We discuss Moodle features, answer questions, and discuss strategies for using Moodle effectively in the College teaching environment.
Meeting time: We usually meet at 12:30 PM on the 3rd Wednesday of each month during the Fall and Spring semesters, but meeting days may be changed to accommodate the semester teaching schedule. Meetings are announced to the Moodle Users distribution list, posted in the news section (on the right side of this page), and also tweeted from the Innovation Studio @sncinnovation Twitter account.
- iPad User Group: The iPad User Group is open to anyone, even if you don't have an iPad. We discuss apps, the iOS operating system, tips and tricks, answer questions, and also talk about how the iPad - and other mobile devices - are changing how people learn, and consume, information.
Meeting time: We usually meet at 12:30 PM on the last Wednesday of each month during the Fall and Spring semesters. As with the Moodle User Group, meetings may be changed to accommodate the semester teaching schedule. Meeting times are announced to the iPad Users distribution list, posted in the news section (on the right side of this page), and also tweeted from the Innovation Studio @sncinnovation Twitter account.
If you have suggestions for other user groups, please contact Jay. Contact information is at the bottom of the page.
Summer Hours
During the summer, and when classes are not in session, the studio is only open by appointment. We also use the studio for some of our technology workshops.
If you'd like to schedule an appointment, please contact Jay.
