Setting up your computer: Windows
The computer setup & registration process takes place once you bring your computer to campus. Instructions will be provided on the
Computer Setup & Registration page, which you should see the first time you open your web browser after connecting to the network jack/hub in your room (if not, go to
http://netreg.snc.edu/).
There are a few things you can do to prepare your computer before you come to campus:
- If you haven't already,
activate your account.
- Make sure that your computer is virus-free (scan it with your current anti-virus software).
- Make sure that your computer is free of spyware (see the handout
Removing Spyware for instructions).
- Install all Windows critical updates.
- Uninstall your current anti-virus software, in preparation for installing the College's McAfee VirusScan. Don't do this until right before you install the College's version of McAfee VirusScan (next step), so that your computer stays protected.
- Install St. Norbert College's version of McAfee VirusScan from our
downloads page. If you don't install this before coming to campus, you will install it as part of the network registration process once you're on campus.
-
Change your computer's network/Internet settings (don't do this until just before you come to campus; once you do, your current Internet connection may not work).
- Review the
Residence Hall Networking Terms and Conditions,
Computing and Networking Appropriate Use Policy, and
File Sharing guidelines. You must adhere to all of these policies, or you will be subject to losing your network connection privileges.
