Web DevelopmentThe SNC web site is maintained using a Content Management System (CMS) called Cascade Server. This system allows College departments & organizations to manage their own web areas using a browser-based tool that requires no special software or knowledge of HTML. It also allows for a consistent look across the entire College web site. To log in to Cascade Server, go to http://www.snc.edu/cascade or http://www.snc.edu/cms. Web Development Support & TrainingOur how-to instructions area has links to lots of information and instructions on web development and Cascade Server. If you're just starting a new campus department or organization web site, or need to get access to a current site, see the Getting Started page. Cascade Server workshops & open labsIntroduction to Cascade Server This workshop is for those who need to learn how to create & maintain web sites with Cascade Server. Anyone who has already attended this workshop is welcome to attend again. For this workshop, pre-registration is absolutely essential. Please do not attend or send anyone to this workshop who hasn't signed up in advance. This workshop is offered every odd month during the day and once per semester (Fall & Spring) in the evening. Cascade workshops for Fall semester have not yet been scheduled. Note that due to the redesign of the College's web site, there will not be a workshop in September and the training schedule may change. Training opportunities will be announced on the cmsusers e-mail list.Cascade Server open labs Open labs are an opportunity to stop by and ask Cascade Server questions, get one-on-one help with Cascade issues, or just get away from your office to work on your web site. No registration is necessary for open labs - just stop by. An open lab is usually offered every month. Wednesday, September 12, 2:00 - 3:00 p.m., Innovation Studio, Mulva 305 Social Networking for Campus Departments Thinking about using social networking tools like Twitter and Facebook to get information from your department out to the College community? Come see examples of what other departments are already doing in this area and learn about best practices, planning, and College guidelines.
Web Forms The page editor in Cascade Server does not include any tools for creating web forms, so they must be created & edited through the HTML code. This advanced workshop will also cover using the "Form Configurator" utility and, if time allows, some additional form functionality such as automatic field completion.
Image Editing and PDF files in Cascade Server This workshop focuses on uploading & editing images for web pages using the built-in image editor in Cascade, and also creating, uploading, & linking to PDF files.
Working with Tables in Cascade Server In order to use certain types of web page layouts, you have to use tables, but working with tables in Cascade can sometimes be tricky. In this workshop we'll talk about editing tables both through the regular Cascade WYSIWYG editing interface and through the HTML code.
CMS users discussion listWhen you are given access to the CMS, you will also be added to the "cmsusers" discussion list, which will be used to inform you of important system changes, upgrades, etc. Feel free to post Cascade Server questions to this list. If you are not on the list because you have not yet begun the content preparation process with the Office of Communications, please contact them at x4011. Web Development Help/QuestionsPlease direct all Cascade Server and other web development questions to the Technology Support Services Help Desk at xHELP (4357), or fill out the Service Request Form.
