Getting Started

Starting a new department/organization web site

To start a new campus department or organization web site, contact the Office of Communications. They will work with you to design and set up your site in the web content management system. Call the Office of Communications at x4011 to schedule an appointment.

Web Site Access

One person in each department or discipline will be designated by the department head as responsible for that area's web pages. That person may grant other people access to the department's web pages as needed. Everyone who works on College web pages must attend the Introduction to Cascade Server workshop.

Each person who works on College web pages must use his or her own computer account. Sharing computer login IDs and passwords with others is strictly prohibited by the Computing and Networking Appropriate Use Policy. If the person does not have the necessary access to a department's web pages, request it as follows:

Staff & Faculty

Access to existing web sites for College staff and faculty should be requested by the department head or supervisor via the Web Access Application Form. (Department heads may apply for their own access.) The same form can be used to remove access.

Students

Students may not apply for their own web access. If a student is to work on departmental web pages as a an employee of that department, then the student's supervisor must apply for web access on behalf of the student via the Web Access Application Form. The same form can be used to remove access.

If a student is taking over an existing student organization web page, the organization's advisor must apply for web access on behalf of the student via the Web Access Application Form. To start a new student organization web site, see LSI's Student Organizations Web Development page.

Removing Access

If someone no longer needs access to a Cascade folder, e.g., if the person stops working for a particular department, then the person responsible for that web site should request that their access be removed via the Web Access Application Form. If a person's Cascade access is removed completely (if they no longer have access to any Cascade folders), then they will also be removed from the the cmsusers discussion list.

If you have any questions about these policies, feel free to contact the Help Desk.
