In 1898, the Catholic Diocese of Green Bay deeded St. Joseph Church and its surrounding complex to the Norbertine Fathers. It remained St. Joseph Church until a new parish church was built 1-1/2 miles west of the College in 1959.

In 1969, the Diocese granted permission to found the St. Norbert College Parish, for use principally by the College's students and faculty. The church received its present name - Old St. Joseph Church - on October 10, 1976, seventy-eight years to the day after Father Bernard Pennings founded the College.
