Summer Ministry Awards

While the Program of Faith, Learning & Vocation is committed to helping all members of the College community explore their significant life commitments through the lens of vocation, it has a particular interest in identifying and developing the next generation of excellent candidates for professional ministry, lay and ordained. To that end, our program supports a variety of student ministry opportunities.

Summer ministry awards are intended to promote students' participation in valuable summer ministry experiences by offering financial support and opportunities for reflection.

To apply, submit your Award application to the Program of Faith, Learning & Vocation. Awards are granted on a rolling basis until the end of the academic year. However, fullest consideration is given to applications received by April 25, 2008.

Program expectations of our students

  • Summer ministry awards are generally awarded to students going into their junior or senior year.
  • While FLV staff members are willing to help with information about possible summer experiences, students are responsible to secure their summer positions.
  • Awards are given to students who work the equivalent of 7 weeks full-time (no less than 280 hours worked).
  • Awards can be given to students whose summer work was paid or volunteer.
  • Since most of this experience takes place off-campus, students' attendance at the post-summer overnight retreat is absolutely mandatory. The retreat is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, 2008 through 3:00 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008.
  • No later than September 12, 2008, students will submit their completed summer ministry reflection form (and ensure that their supervisor has submitted his or her reflection form).
  • Financial awards will not be processed until summer paperwork is turned in and participation in the post-summer overnight retreat is completed.
  • Award recipients are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that reflects positively on the College and the Program of Faith, Learning & Vocation.

Benefits of summer ministry awards

  • Reflect and dialogue with a group of your peers to gain more from your summer experience as you consider the types of ministry to which you may be called.
  • Financial support can enable students to participate in significant ministry experiences that are either volunteer or modestly compensated.
  • A $1,000 scholarship is awarded upon completion of all requirements.
