St. Norbert College Women's and Gender Studies Awards

Cassandra J. Voss Award in Women’s and Gender Studies | View List of Recipients
Cassandra J. Voss (1985-2007) was a senior double major in English and Women’s and Gender Studies with an art minor at St. Norbert College.  An excellent student and beloved member of the St. Norbert community, Cassandra was a campus leader whose joyful, loving, and bold spirit inspired everyone who met her.
Cassandra was a pioneer in Women’s and Gender Studies:  she would have graduated as the first ever Women’s and Gender Studies major (self-designed).  She possessed tireless intellectual curiosity which she demonstrated by presenting academic work at three different conferences, including the National Women’s Studies Association Conference, a rare honor for an undergraduate student.  She was an explorer who completed a Women’s and Gender Studies Summer Program in London and was about to study abroad in South Africa with a focus on global women’s and gender concerns.  Cassandra was also an excellent student; she was on the Dean’s List every semester and a member of the English Honorary Society, Sigma Tau Delta.  As a Women’s Center intern, Cassandra investigated gender issues outside the classroom through the many innovative programs she dreamed and executed.
In order to honor her legacy, this interdisciplinary award recognizes a senior who has demonstrated excellence in the field of Women’s and Gender Studies.  Ideally, Cassandra J. Voss’s exuberance, commitment, creativity, and intellectual inquiry are also qualities characterizing the award recipient.
