Here are just some of the programs and events in Women’s and Gender Studies. Look for more coming up! We largely do academic programming related to the discipline of Women’s and Gender Studies. We also collaborate on programs with other areas of the college, including the Women’s Center.


We host a Women’s and Gender Studies Scholarship Colloquium that has included such speakers as

  • Brad Ellis, Assistant Professor, Spanish, "Female Agency and Subversion in the Work of Maria de Zayas y Sotomayor (1590-1661?)."
  • Michelle Tichy, Assistant Professor of Education, “Theorizing Attachment Parenting: The Journey from Idealistic Graduate Student to Mother with a Mission.”


We host film screenings and book discussions such as


  • Film screening of Iron Jawed Angels (film about suffrage movement starring Hilary Swank and Anjelica Huston, 2004) and discussion with Professor Kim Nielsen, Professor of Women’s Studies, University of Wisconsin - Green Bay, and author of Un-American Womanhood: Antiradicalism, Antifeminism, and the First Red Scare (2001), The Radical Lives of Helen Keller (2004), and Helen Keller: Selected Writings (2005).
  • Book discussion: Good Catholic Girls: How Women are Leading the Fight to Change the Church by Angela Bonavoglia. Facilitated by Professor Bridget Burke Ravizza.


We co-sponsor programs such as

  • Norbertine Women: Challenges Medieval & Modern with Professor of History, Carol Neel, Colorado College and Rev. Dr. Dominique-Marie Dauzet, O. Praem., Mondaye Abbey, Normandy, France. Co-Sponsored by Center for Norbertine Studies.
  • Discussion of Women Don’t Ask: Negotiation and the Gender Divide by Linda Babcock and Sarah Laschever. Co-sponsored by the Office of Student Life.
  • Teaching & Learning Workshop on “Gender in the Classroom.” Co-sponsored by the Office of Faculty Development.
  • Film screening and discussion of Running in High Heels. The film focuses on women’s roles in politics. Panel members include St. Norbert College political science professors Wendy Scattergood and Gratzia Villarroel and adjunct instructor Maureen Manion, Brown County board supervisor Julie Knier, and University of Wisconsin-Green Bay change and social development professor Timothy Dale.  Co-sponsored by the Joan P. Schaupp Women’s Center.
