13th Annual Joan P. Schaupp Women’s Center Phenomenal Woman Conference
Saturday, April 2, 2011 St. Norbert College Bemis International Center 9:00 am to 3:00 pm

About the conference
Each year, the Phenomenal Woman Conference focuses on educating, supporting, and empowering women. It is a wonderful opportunity for the extraordinary women of St. Norbert College and the greater Green Bay communities to celebrate, socialize, and grow. Though the focus of the Phenomenal Woman Conference is on women, men are more than welcome to attend.

The conference will begin with registration, followed by the keynote speech.  It will move on to the first workshop session, and  then to a delicious lunch during which the musical guest will perform.  After lunch will follow the second and third workshop sessions and finally the closing remarks and raffle prizes will be awarded.

Keynote Speaker

zullykeynoteWe are very excited to announce that this year we will be hosting Ms. Zully J.F. Alvarado as the keynote speaker.  Zully is a Chicago businesswoman who founded the non-profit organization Causes for Change International which organizes volunteer programs in places like Ecuador, Panama, and Costa Rica.  Growing up in rural Ecuador, Zully became very sick at a young age and due to a lack of proper medical supplies, facilities, and physicians she was taken to the United States to receive treatment.  She went on to attend high school in Chicago and graduate with a degree in Early Childhood Education from Loyola and a Master’s in Rehabilitation Administration at De Paul University.  After a few years in social work, Zully again became ill, and chose to make a drastic change in her career path.  She went into shoe design and for 11 years ran her own made-to-order shoe business.  Her illness worsened, however, and she was forced to rethink her career.  But instead of retiring, she opened a new business- Silverado Financial Network- and got married that same year.  Only a few years later, Zully founded Causes for Change International, and she and her husband continue to work together to improve the lives of those who are truly in need. Click here for more information.

Her speech is entitled “A Woman’s Fulfillment: Living Life in Action and Reflection” and promises to be, above all, moving and enriching and will provide an uplifting start to the conference.

Musical Guest

During lunch we will have the privilege of seeing an inspiring dance performance by the Nia African and African American Dancers and Drummers, a dance group from the University of Wisconsin Green Bay, whose goal is to promote an appreciation of diversity through the practice and performance of African-style dancing and drumming.  Click here to view photo.
