Zambia Project donations and fundraising
The Zambia Project commitment
From its very beginning, the Zambia Project has been steadfastly committed to giving 100% of the monies raised to the Zambia Open Community Schools (ZOCS). All individual and group donations, and all funds generated from group projects, go directly to Zambia. Operating expenses (supplies, materials and printing costs) for the project are provided by the Student Government Association Allocations Committee. Travel expenses are covered by each traveler's private funds and by separate fundraising efforts of those who travel.
How is money raised for ZOCS?
The Zambia Project receives funds for ZOCS from three primary sources:
-
Individual donations - Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated.
-
Group donations - Churches, civic organizations and school groups are encouraged to support the work of ZOCS through the Zambia Project. Zambia Project members are available to make presentations on the work of the project.
-
Zambia Project group fundraisers - Students and staff are continually involved in projects, ranging from working concessions at Lambeau Field to sponsoring an on-campus dance—the ZOCS HOP.
How is money used by ZOCS?
| $60 |
Basic supplies
Basic classroom supplies such as pens, pencils, paper and chalk can be covered for a year for a class of 40. |
| $400 |
Textbooks
ZOCS classrooms currently have a ratio of one book to every four students. You can supply 40 books for a class, one book per student. |
| $650 |
Sponsor a class
This amount of money will support a class of 40 students for one year, including teaching materials and the teacher's allowance. |

A grinding machine for maize is essential in the preparation of the staple food of Zambia. A school can use the machine for income generating projects to become self-supportive. |
| $7,000 |
Bore hole
A well on the school site provides clean drinking water and allows the school to grow vegetables for food and for income generation. |
$500-
$5,000 |
Construction materials
The cement for construction of a medium-sized school costs $2,500. All ZOCS schools hope to expand so they can educate more pupils. |
$500-

Loan money for self-sustainability projects
All ZOCS schools want to become self-sufficient. No-interest loans help the schools develop self-sustainability projects. Example: City of Hope School needs money to begin a mushroom farming operation. |
