Zambia Traveler Protocol

The Zambia Project has organized study trips to Zambia. The purpose of these trips was to learn first-hand about the work of the ZOCS staff, visit the schools and meet the pupils who the project serves.

The “Big Idea”

  • Students have to “earn” the right to travel to Zambia with the Zambia Project.
  • Travel teams will visit the country in every even-numbered year, as long as there is sufficient student interest
  • We will not travel with fewer than 5 students
  • We will not travel with more than 10 students
  • Corday gets to go no matter what

Details about the program …

  1. In order to travel, students must earn at least 15 points prior to the purchase of airplane tickets during the spring and fall before the trip .  Those with the most points have top priority.
  1. Points can be earned during the spring and fall semester prior to traveling.

The 2010 Zambia Trip

In June 2010, eight students, four alumns and two staff members of The Zambia Project traveled to Zambia for 3 weeks. The majority of the trip, the travelers stayed in a hostel near Lusaka, Zambia's capital. They also spent one weekend living out in the "bush," or Zambia's rural countryside. Throughout the trip, they visited many of the ZOCS schools that The Zambia Project supports. They witnessed firsthand the good work that is being done, and also the great need that still exists. They were able to interact with the students, teachers, and staff at the schools. The trip provided them with a unique opportunity to interact with the amazingly kind people, and witness the beautiful landscapes of Zambia.
