Zambia Open Community Schools (ZOCS)
The Zambia Open Community Schools (ZOCS) is a consortium of 19 schools in residential areas in and around Lusaka, the capital city of Zambia. ZOCS provides a basic, free education to over 9,500 orphans and other vulnerable children (OVCs) who would not otherwise have a chance to go to school.
The theme of ZOCS is "hope for the future" because children who have no access to education will have little opportunity to thrive, or even survive in an impoverished country. In ZOCS schools, children learn how to read, write, do math—and they receive extensive AIDS education. ZOCS is a registered NGO in Zambia, and is recognized by the Zambian Ministry of Education.
