Message from the President: St. Norbert College's new Donald J. Schneider Athletics ComplexDec. 10, 2008
As we head into the holidays, I want to share some truly glad tidings with you. I'm thrilled to let you know that one of our board of trustees, Donald Schneider, and his wife Patricia have just made a $4-million gift for a forthcoming new St. Norbert College athletic complex that will bear Don's name.
Don is a 1957 graduate of St. Norbert College and the chairman-emeritus of Schneider National. Years ago, Don taught business at St. Norbert as an adjunct instructor and he has long been a friend to us.
This is a spectacular gift, and it is apt on so many levels—because of the Schneiders' decades-long advocacy of the College and because of Don's own lifelong commitment to physical fitness. It represents a perfect fit for the Schneiders and the College, and I can scarcely begin to convey our thanks for their generosity.
We'll talk more when everyone returns for the spring semester about the timing and plans for the construction of the athletic complex. Right now this gift puts the project at about 60 percent of our fundraising goal. That means we are within striking distance of being able to break ground in the foreseeable future.
If you aren't familiar with the specifics of the proposed athletic complex, you can see renderings at http://www.snc.edu/athletics/facilities/schneiderstadium.html.
The Donald J. Schneider Outdoor Athletics Complex will be located, following final approval by the City of De Pere, just blocks away from campus along Lost Dauphin Road north of Scheuring Road. It will be the new home of the Green Knight soccer, football, and track and field teams. Included in this impressive complex will be locker rooms and a beautiful stadium for cheering our teams to victory!
Please join me in thanking Don and Pat for their wonderful generosity, their commitment to the well-being of St. Norbert College, and their dedication to this region and community.
I have to say, the Schneiders have perhaps made this our best Christmas yet!
With my thanks and gratitude,
P.S. An announcement of this gift is being made today to the media. Feel free to go to http://www.snc.edu/communications/pressrelease/?i=1091 to read more.
