Psychology

The science of psychology

Psychological science asks interesting questions about the causes and consequences of human thought, feeling and behavior. As you study to earn a psychology major or minor at St. Norbert College, you'll be able to explore important topics across various subdisciplines. These include biological, clinical, cognitive/perceptual, developmental and social psychology.

You'll also gain a deeper understanding of the complex interactions among internal and external factors that contribute to who people are, what people do and how people can build more fulfilling and satisfying lives. Additionally, you’ll graduate with a psychology degree that equips you with strong research and other marketable skills to help you pursue meaningful career directions.

Academic pathways within the psychology major

At SNC, you can earn a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology. We also offer a minor in psychology that complements coursework in a variety of other fields.

Elevate your psychology degree

If you’re looking for a psychology degree program with a strong focus on research, SNC is a good match. Here at SNC, you may be able to collaborate with faculty on research projects on topics related to decision-making, motivation and goals, or personality and mental health. You might even have the opportunity to present your research at conferences, or publish research in journals.

Once you get started on your psychology degree, reach out to faculty about opportunities to join their research labs. Some of the labs include the Personality, Emotion, & Psychopathology Research Lab, the Decision-Making Lab, and the Motivation and Diversity Lab.

SNC hosts a chapter of Psi Chi, a highly respected international college honor society in the field of psychology. If your grades place you in the top 35 percent of your class, you’ll qualify for membership! Strong academic performance in psychology can also net you one of several paid psychology teaching assistantships on campus.

  • I really enjoyed the courses Abnormal Psychology and Personality Psychology. They both have a clinical emphasis. So, it was just knowing that I wanted to work within human services and then taking more classes within clinical psychology with Dr. Michelle Schoenleber, a licensed clinician, that helped me decide what I wanted to do.
