Early Flurry Lifts St. Norbert Past Monmouth

DE PERE - St. Norbert College scored three goals in the first 27 minutes of the game en route to a 3-0 win over Monmouth College in a Midwest Conference match at Kolstad Field at Schneider Stadium.

The Green Knights won for the third time in their last four games to improve to 6-9 overall and 4-3 in the MWC. Monmouth dropped to 2-11, 1-5.

Nate Felhofer opened the scoring at the 8 minutes 52 seconds mark when he connected inside the left post off an assist from Mike Burmesch. Petro Czerniak followed up at 13:10 with a header off a corner that went through goalkeeper Nick Vyncke's hands. Czerniak then scored at 26:15 when his dribbler in front of the net trickled in.

St. Norbert outshot Monmouth 13-7 and had a 3-1 edge on corner kicks. Noah Davis made two saves for St. Norbert. Vyncke made one save in the first half for Monmouth, while Frank Bowman made one stop in the second half.

St. Norbert will face Lawrence at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Schneider Stadium in a key match for MWC Tournament chances.
