St. Norbert Wins NCHA Peters Cup Playoff Opener

GREEN BAY - The St. Norbert College hockey team extended its unbeaten streak to 23 games with a 4-0 win over Lake Forest College in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Peters Cup quarterfinal series game at the Cornerstone Community Center.
The Green Knights (21-1-4) and Foresters (3-22-1) will hook up again on Feb. 23 in the second game of the first-to-three-points series.
St. Norbert, ranked No. 1 in Division III by USCHO.com, outshot the Foresters 42-8. Kyle Jones made eight saves for his 21st career shutout and his sixth blanking of the season. It was also his 100th career collegiate start.
St. Norbert took a 1-0 lead after one period when Sam Tikka scored at 9:27 of the frame on a rebound from a Shawn Overton shot.
The Green Knights scored three goals in a two-minute stretch in the second period to put the game away. Nick Tabisz scored near post at 3:22, followed by Marc Belanger's 20th goal of the season at 4:30. Ryan Petersen scored his eighth goal of the year at 5:23 to close out the scoring.
Scott Campbell made 28 saves in two periods for Lake Forest, while Brandon Kohuch made 10 stops in the third period. St. Norbert was 1-for-4 on the power play while the Foresters were just 0-for-1.
St. Norbert is now 23-1 all-time at home against Lake Forest under Tim Coghlin.
