Green Knights Fall in MWC Tournament Title Match to Beloit

MONMOUTH, Ill. - St. Norbert College fell in three sets to Beloit College in the championship match of the Midwest Conference Women's Volleyball Tournament at Monmouth College's Glennie Gym.

The Green Knights dropped the match 25-23, 29-27, 25-19 to finish their season 22-10. Beloit improved to 19-11 and earned the automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Tournament next week. It marked the third-straight year St. Norbert and Beloit had met for the MWC Tournament championship, with the Green Knights winning the previous two meetings.

St. Norbert led the first set 22-21 before Beloit scored two points. Sarah Sulentic's kill tied the set at 23-23, but the Buccaneers scored the last two points of the set to pull out the close win.

The Green Knights had leads in the second set of 8-3 and 18-9 but couldn't hold on. Beloit rallied back to take a 23-21 lead before St. Norbert pulled ahead 24-23. The Green Knights couldn't get the set-clinching point however as Beloit scored the last two points after a 27-27 tie.

Beloit never trailed in the third set, leading 8-2 out of the gate. Beloit hit .117 for the match, getting 39 kills in 162 attempts against 20 errors. Laura Toth had 15 kills and Tess Jacquez had 13.

St. Norbert hit .062 for the match, with 33 kills and 23 errors in 160 attacks. Sulentic was the only player in double figures in kills with 12. Catherine Guido had 30 digs for St. Norbert, which had 84 as a team.
