Green Knights Outlast Macalester to Win Baylake Bank Tip-Off Tourney Opener

DE PERE - St. Norbert College remained unbeaten in the history of the Baylake Bank Tip-Off Tournament with a 63-52 win over Macalester College on Connie Tilley Court at Schuldes Sports Center.

The Green Knights are 7-0 all-time in the tournament and will face UW-Oshkosh at 3 p.m. Saturday in the tournament championship game. Macalester will face the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in the 1 p.m. consolation game. Oshkosh topped Mary Hardin-Baylor 53-48 in the tournament opener.

St. Norbert could never quite pull away from Macalester. The Green Knights held a 23-9 lead with 4 minutes left in the first half before the Green Knights settled on a 30-21 halftime advantage.

The Scots scored on their first possession of the second half to cut the deficit to 30-23, but Jamie Kuhl then scored on St. Norbert's next three possessions for a 36-23 lead. The Green Knights would lead by as much as 16 in the second half, and Macalester would cut it to eight points on two different occasions but would get no closer.

Kuhl finished with 16 points and nine rebounds for St. Norbert, while Erin Baganz added 13 points. Krista Pelky had eight points, eight assists and four steals. St. Norbert shot 42.3 percent from the floor, making 22 of 52 field goals, and held a 42-31 rebounding advantage.

Majra Mucic led Macalester with 15 points and 10 rebounds. The Scots shot 30 percent from the floor, making 15 of 50 field goals, but stayed in the game by going 20-for-28 (71.4 percent) at the free-throw line.
