St. Norbert Drops Pair to Open Season

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - St. Norbert College lost a pair of games to open its 2011 season at the Rebel Spring Games. The Green Knights lost to Westminster (Pa.) College 7-5 in eight innings and to Springfield College 4-3.

St. Norbert held a 5-2 lead with two outs and nobody on before Westminster rallied for three runs on three hits and two errors to tie the game. The Titans then scored twice in the top of the eighth to win it.

The Green Knights scored three runs on two hits and two Westminster errors in the first inning. Kayla Krueger added an RBI single in the fifth and Kristin Zimmerman an RBI single in the sixth.

Steph Brunette led St. Norbert at the plate going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a triple. St. Norbert did not allow an earned run in the game thanks to seven errors defensively.

Springfield scored single runs in each of its last four at bats to get the win. Jessica Kropp had an RBI groundout and Morgan Buboltz an RBI single in the third, and Brunette stroked a solo home run in the fifth. Brunette was 2-for-3 with two runs scored for the Green Knights.

Kari Corbeille took the loss, allowing four runs (two earned) on eight hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
