St. Norbert Can't Hang On at No. 11 UW-Whitewater

WHITEWATER - St. Norbert College couldn't hold a five-run lead in the nightcap of a doubleheader and got swept by UW-Whitewater 8-0 and 11-7 at van Steenderen Field.

The Green Knights fell to 5-9 overall. Whitewater, ranked No. 11 in the latest NFCA Division III Poll, improved to 15-3.

St. Norbert got the jump in game two scoring once in the first and four times in the second. Kayla Krueger's RBI single drove in Steph Brunette in the first. Kari Corbeille added a solo home run and Brittany Narges stroked a three-run homer in the second.

The Warhawks scored single runs in the second and third innings before rallying with seven runs on six hits and one error in the fifth to take a 9-5 lead. Whitewater added two more in the sixth before Narges' two-run home run in the seventh closed out the scoring.

Brunette finished 4-for-4 with three runs scored and three doubles. Narges was 3-for-4 with two home runs, five RBIs and two runs scored. Ashtin Schmechel was 2-for-3. Corbeille took the loss as Whitewater had 14 hits in the game.

Whitewater's Jessica Stang fired a one-hitter in the opener, with Morgan Buboltz's single in the second inning the lone St. Norbert safety. Krueger took the loss for St. Norbert.
