Green Knights Claim MWC North Division Title

APPLETON - St. Norbert College captured the Midwest Conference North Division championship with a pair of dual-match wins. The Green Knights topped Carroll University 7-2 on Saturday before tipping Lawrence University 5-4 Sunday to finish the division schedule unbeaten.

The Green Knights will face Monmouth College Friday, May 6 at Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison in the semifinals of the MWC Team Championship Tournament.

St. Norbert's win over Carroll was pivotal for reaching the tournament. The Green Knights picked up two doubles points and then claimed five singles points for the win.

Derek Harrington and Nick Acosta beat Kevin Rasmussen and Matt Zellner 8-6 at No. 1, followed by an 8-3 win for Tim Hartwick and Danny Meicher at No. 2 over John Silseth and Matt Joost.

In singles action, St. Norbert won three three-set matches. Hartwick beat Seth Pamperin 6-2, 6-7 (2-7), 6-1 at No. 2, Matt Lobeck beat Zellner 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) at No. 3 and Josh Sweere topped Joost 6-0, 0-6, 6-4 at No. 5.

Against Lawrence, the Vikings claimed two doubles points. Hartwick and Meicher earned St. Norbert's lone point with an 8-3 win over Caleb Ray and Jeremy Andereck at No. 2.

Lobeck beat Max Zlevor 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3, and Acosta beat Andereck 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4. Meicher defeated Roy Wimer 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5 and Kyle Sauer topped Bile Ali 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6.
