Skaters Take Oswego Tourney Opener

OSWEGO, N.Y. - St. Norbert College goaltender Kyle Jones set the NCAA Division III career record for wins during St. Norbert College's 5-2 win over Curry College in a Pathfinder Bank Oswego Hockey Classic first-round game. The Green Knights, 10-1-1 and ranked No. 1 in Division III, will play Amherst for the championship on Sunday, Dec. 30. Amherst beat Oswego State 3-1.

Jones' 73rd career win moves him past Rick Strack of Plattsburgh State, who won 72 games from 1978-81. Jones, who made 18 saves in the game, is currently 73-10-6 during his St. Norbert career.

St. Norbert was able to forge the win by getting two goals from freshman Brandon Longley in his collegiate debut. Longley scored with 2:10 left in the first period to put St. Norbert ahead 2-1, and then scored at the 7:50 mark of the second period for a two-goal lead.

Marc Belanger, Shane Wheeler and Nick Tabisz also scored goal for St. Norbert. Belanger's marker was his 50th collegiate goal, while Tabisz also had two assists in the game.

St. Norbert was 3-for-12 on the power play, while Curry was 1-for-9. The game was marred with 33 penalties, with St. Norbert getting 13 penalties for 26 minutes. Curry had 20 penalties for 64 minutes.

Steven Jakiel made 21 saves for the Colonels (7-4-1).
