St. Norbert Wins Oswego Hockey Classic

OSWEGO, N.Y. - St. Norbert College scored three goals in the third period to rally and win the Pathfinder Bank Oswego Holiday Classic with a 3-1 triumph over Amherst College. St. Norbert, ranked No. 1 in the USCHO.com Division III poll, improved to 11-1-1 and extended its unbeaten streak to 10. Amherst fell to 4-3-2.

Amherst scored the game's first goal when Luke Arnold connected with 36 seconds left in the first period. The Lord Jeffs were able to make the lead stand up after two periods, and St. Norbert finally netted the equalizer when Marc Belanger scored his 12th marker of the year at the 10:15 mark of the third period. St. Norbert forged the lead when Matt Boyd scored with helpers from Belanger and Dubas at 14:40. Ryan Petersen's empty-netter with 43 seconds left salted away the win.

St. Norbert was 0-for-5 on the power play, while Amherst was 0-for-8. The Green Knights outshot the Lord Jeffs 32-19.

Blake Bashor made 18 saves to earn the win for St. Norbert, while Cole Anderson made 29 saves for Amherst.

Shane Wheeler of St. Norbert was named as the tournament's Most Valuable Player and was on the all-tournament team. He was joined by teammates Nick Tabisz on defense and goalie Kyle Jones, who was the winning goalie in Saturday's semifinal victory for the Green Knights. Amherst's Arnold was on the all-tournament team at forward and joined by defenseman Rylan Burns.
