St. Norbert Bounces Back to Sweep Edgewood

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - St. Norbert College rebounded on its second day of action in Florida to post a doubleheader sweep of Edgewood College by scores of 11-7 and 17-1 at Chain of Lakes Park.

The Green Knights even their record at 2-2, while the Eagles dropped to 2-4.

St. Norbert broke open a 4-2 game in the opener with a seven-run fifth inning. Jordan Powers and Garrick Fisher both had two-run singles in the inning, while Chris Hillesheim and Chad Ljunggren also had RBI singles. The Green Knights also had a four-run first inning keyed by a two-run single from Nick Pierre.

Powers was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs, while Pierre was 2-for-4 with one run scored and two RBIs. Hillesheim was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Josh Honzik was the winning pitcher, allowing 12 hits with one walk and seven strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings.

The Green Knights put up 10 runs in the second inning in the nightcap and cruised to the win. Chris Laux hit a grand slam and later had an RBI single. Jose Godinez had two RBI singles in the inning, while Fisher also had an RBI hit. Fisher later added a three-run home run in the sixth inning.

Laux was 3-for-4 with five RBIs and a run scored. Fisher was 4-for-6 with five RBIs and two runs scored, and Godinez was 3-for-5 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Travis Mason was the winning pitcher, allowing five hits with three walks and three strikeouts in four innings pitched.
