ST. LOUIS - St. Norbert College dropped a pair of hard-fought games to Washington (Mo.) University by scores of 3-2 and 8-6 at Kelly Field. The games were the first two affairs in a three-game series, which will conclude at 11 a.m. Sunday.

The Green Knights (6-5) trailed 2-0 in the opener before rallying late to tie the game. Travis Mason had an RBI groundout to plate a run in the sixth, and Nick Pierre's clutch two-out single in the top of the seventh squared the game at 2-2.

The Bears (19-6) got the win in the bottom of the seventh when Zack Kessinger hit a walk-off single with two outs.

Kevin Nutley took the hard-luck loss, going 6 1/3 innings allowing five hits with three walks and one strikeout. Troy Rottier was 2-for-3 for the Green Knights, who had just three hits in the contest.

St. Norbert held a 5-4 lead in the seventh inning but the bullpen faltered allowing three runs in the bottom of the seventh and one in the eighth as the Bears rallied for the win.

Mason, who went 3-for-5 in the nightcap, had an RBI single in the first inning. Chris Laux scored on an error and Chad Ljunggren hit a sacrifice fly to put the Green Knights ahead 3-2 in the sixth. Washington scored twice in the sixth, but St. Norbert answered in the seventh with two runs. Garrick Fisher hit a sacrifice fly and Jose Godinez laced an RBI single.

St. Norbert had 14 hits in the game, with Ljunggren, Godinez and Pierre all adding two hits apiece. Josh Honzik started and took a no-decision, allowing five runs in 6 1/3 innings. Drew Tangney took the loss in relief.
