Green Knights Win Midwest Conference Opener

DE PERE - St. Norbert College claimed a 3-1 win over Monmouth College to win its Midwest Conference opener at Schneider Stadium.

The Green Knights (5-1-1, 1-0 MWC) took a 1-0 lead when Katie Vanden Avond beat a defender for her 10th goal of the season just 11 minutes 8 seconds into the game, with Kaitlyn Schmitz getting the assist.

St. Norbert extended its lead to 2-0 when Schmitz scored unassisted at 48:16 when she got a rebound off the crossbar and beat Monmouth goalkeeper Samantha Barranco.

Monmouth (1-3-2, 0-1 MWC) halved its deficit at 75:24 when Alex Ivie scored, but the Green Knights put the game away with Vanden Avond's 11th goal of the year at 85:24.

St. Norbert outshot Monmouth 23-9. Sarah Platzer made three saves for St. Norbert, while Barranco made nine saves for the Scots.
