Vanden Avond's Hat Trick Leads St. Norbert Past Cornell

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - St. Norbert College's Katie Vanden Avond recorded a hat trick to lead the Green Knights to a 3-1 Midwest Conference win over Cornell College.

The Green Knights improved to 9-3-2 overall and 4-1-1 in the MWC with the win, while the Rams dropped to 2-12-1, 1-6-1.

St. Norbert scored early when Vanden Avond found the goal at the 11 minutes 24 seconds mark. Cornell got an equalizer at 36:19 when the Rams' Zauditu Kaza-Amlak scored to even it at 1-1, where the score would stand at halftime.

Vanden Avond put the game out of reach with goals at 52:04 and 58:02, giving her 21 goals overall on the season. Her second goal was also her sixth game-winning goal of the year.

Stephanie Pedretti and Elly Wiebusch recorded assists for St. Norbert.

The Green Knights outshot the Rams 28-5. Sarah Platzer made three saves in goal for St. Norbert.
