Big Second Half Gives Detrie Win No. 100

GRINNELL, Iowa - St. Norbert College head coach Dennis Detrie picked up his 100th win at the helm of the Green Knights with a wild 4-3 Midwest Conference win over Grinnell College at Springer Field.

The Green Knights (10-3-2, 5-1-1 MWC) scored four second-half goals to hold off the Pioneers (6-7-1, 6-2). Detrie moved his to 100-71-8 in his 10th season with St. Norbert.

St. Norbert also kept its chances for a MWC title alive with the win. Lake Forest wrapped up its conference schedule at 8-1-1, with the Green Knights having three games in hand heading into the final week. St. Norbert has to win its last three games to claim a share of the MWC title, and will host the MWC Tournament if its wins those three games by a total of at least seven goals (with no more than three goals countable in each game).

Grinnell led 1-0 at halftime before the Green Knights scored three times in the first 13 minutes of the second half for a 3-1 lead. Katie Vanden Avond scored at 49:07 and 57:34, sandwiched around Kellan Zimmer's goal at 56:03.

The Pioneers' Kathryn Vincent cut the deficit to 3-2 at 59:10, but Vanden Avond converted a penalty kick at 64:57 for his sixth hat trick of the season and her 24th goal of the year. Grinnell's Maddie Gray had a successful penalty kick at 72:43 to move the score to 4-3, but the host couldn't find an equalizer down the stretch.

Grinnell outshot St. Norbert 21-17. Corner kicks were even 3-3. Sarah Platzer made 14 saves for the Green Knights, while Katy Oldach made nine stops for the Pioneers.
