Green Knights Rout UW-Stevens Point

DE PERE - St. Norbert College netted four power-play goals en route to a 7-0 win over UW-Stevens Point in both teams' Northern Collegiate Hockey Association opener at the Cornerstone Community Center.

The Green Knights (2-0, 1-0 NCHA) won their 11th-straight game dating back to last season by breaking open the game with three goals apiece in the second and third periods. UW-Stevens Point (1-1, 0-1) gave St. Norbert 10 power-play opportunities by committing 11 penalties for 33 minutes.

St. Norbert took an early 1-0 lead when Cullen Bradshaw cashed in on a power-play score at the 14:21 mark of the first period. The Green Knights added to their lead early in the second when Cody Keefer scored on a breakaway at 1:20 of the frame.

The Pointers' Brandon Busse was called for a major checking-from-behind penalty at the 12:23 mark of the second period, and the Green Knights scored once on the ensuing power play. Carl Ekstrom banged home a loose puck at 16:07. Shortly after the penalty expired, St. Norbert scored at 18:19 when Joe Perry knocked in a shot from the doorstep for a 4-0 lead.

St. Norbert scored three more times in the third period on power-play goals from Tyler Zepeda and Chris Rial, and an even-strength marker from Kyle Stroh. Zepeda's goal was his first collegiate goal, while Rial's score came on a 5-on-3 advantage.

Bradshaw and Ekstrom both added two assists to finish with three points, while Sam Higgins had two assists.

St. Norbert outshot Stevens Point 38-18. The Green Knights were 4-for-10 on the power play, while the Pointers were 0-for-3.

David Jacobson made 18 saves for his second-straight shutout, and he now has a consecutive shutout sequence of 169:13 dating back to last season. Brandon Jaeger made 31 saves for the Pointers.
