GREEN BAY - St. Norbert College beat Ripon College in a men's tennis dual meet for the first time in program history, posting a 6-3 triumph at Western Racquet Club.

The win gives the Green Knights the outright Midwest Conference North Division championship for the first time ever at 4-0. St. Norbert, which ended the regular season 13-12 overall, will face Lake Forest College in a MWC Team Tournament semifinal at Nielsen Tennis Stadium on Friday in Madison.

St. Norbert had never beaten Ripon in men's tennis since the program began in 1965. The Green Knights joined the Midwest Conference for the 1983-84 school year, and have met the Red Hawks annually since the spring of 1984.

The Green Knights won three three-set matches in singles play to tip the scales in their favor.

The clinching wins came at No. 4 and 6 singles. Ryan Kerswill beat Jay Hardacre at No. 4 singles 6-2, 5-7, 6-3. Nate Tackaberry rebounded from a first-set loss to Dan Rodriguez at No. 6 singles to post a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 triumph. Adrian Acosta rounded out action with a 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, 10-8 win at No. 3 singles over Ben Sweeney.

Eric Koppmann was St. Norbert's other winner in singles play, beating Dan Weiler in straight sets at 7-5, 6-2 at No. 5.

St. Norbert took two of three doubles points and nearly swept the three matches. Chris Schmitz and Mike Hyrczyk beat Andy Schaller and Dan Weiler at No. 2 doubles 8-6. Koppmann and Dan Richter beat Hardacre and Rodriguez 8-5 at No. 3 doubles. Acosta and Kerswill dropped a tough match at No. 1 doubles to Dave Czarnecki and Sweeney 9-8 (7-0).
