Green Knights Swept at No. 13 UW-Whitewater

WHITEWATER - St. Norbert College nearly handed No. 13-ranked UW-Whitewater its first loss of the season, but was done in by two swings of the bat and was swept by the Warhawks by scores of 5-1 and 4-2 in a non-conference doubleheader at van Steenderen Field.

The Green Knights (8-8) held a 2-0 lead in the nightcap, but the Warhawks (16-0) rallied behind two home runs. Morgan Buboltz gave St. Norbert a 1-0 lead in the first inning with an RBI single, and Jessica DeMeuse's run-scoring single in the fourth inning put the Green Knights ahead 2-0.

The Warhawks halved the deficit with a solo home run by Jo Jablonski in the fifth inning. Samie Seamon put Whitewater ahead with a three-run home run with one out in the sixth inning.

Shannen Schmidt took the loss for St. Norbert, allowing six hits with two walks and two strikeouts. DeMeuse was 2-for-3 to lead St. Norbert at the plate. Bekka Houda got the win for Whitewater, allowing five hits with one walk and three strikeouts.

Whitewater scored three times in the first inning in the opener to take a 3-0 lead. St. Norbert scored its only run in the third inning on an RBI single by Buboltz. The Warhawks answered with two runs in the third for the game's final runs.

Buboltz, Abby Gildernick and Emily Laufer all had two hits apiece, but the Green Knights stranded 10 baserunners. Morgan Rusch took the loss, allowing 10 hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
