Green Knights Open MWC Play With Win

DE PERE - St. Norbert College gained a win in its Midwest Conference opener with a 4-0 triumph over Lawrence University at Schneider Stadium.

The Green Knights (4-1-1, 1-0 MWC) benefited from a Katie Vanden Avond hat trick for the second-straight game. Vanden Avond now has 11 goals in six games.

Vanden Avond put St. Nobert on the board 9 minutes 55 seconds into the game, and then followed up with with another marker at 30:33. Kaitlin Schmitz scored at 34:06, and Vanden Avond finished off the scoring by reaching a hat trick at 40:47.

Schmitz added two assists, while Vanden Avond and Kellan Zimmer each had one helper.

St. Norbert outshot Lawrence 22-9 and had a 7-2 edge in corner kicks. Sarah Platzer had three saves in 76:16 of work for St. Norbert, while Maddie Plinska added one assist in 13:44 of relief. Dani Glass made eight saves for Lawrence.
