ROCKFORD, Ill. - St. Norbert College's Midwest Conference championship hopes came to an end when it lost a 5-3 decision to Grinnell College in the semifinals of the MWC Team Tournament at Rockford Boylan Tennis Center.

The Green Knights (14-2) had beaten Grinnell 5-4 during the regular season before some lineup shuffling by the Pioneers factored into the post-season outcome. Grinnell went on to beat previously unbeaten Lake Forest College 5-0 in the conference title match.

St. Norbert got off to a good start by taking two of the three doubles matches. Nancy Chybowski and Erika Chitko defeated Shirlene Luk and Virginia Purcell at No. 1 by an 8-5 score. Katherine Ake and Maggie Berens topped Hanna Feldman and Julia Rumley 8-6 at No. 3.

Elizabeth Manlick claimed St. Norbert's lone singles win, with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Purcell at No. 3 singles.
