St. Norbert Tops Concordia-Moorhead in Season Opener

MOORHEAD, Minn. - St. Norbert College jumped out to a big early lead and went on from there to post a 4-0 win over Concordia-Moorhead College in a non-conference game at Moorhead Sports Center.

The Green Knights (1-0), ranked No. 8 in Division III by both D3hockey.com and USCHO.com, led 3-0 after the first period. St. Norbert has won 14 of its last 16 games dating back to last season.

Rachel Koppang scored her first collegiate goal 58 seconds into the game, with Karissa Anderson assisting. Myranda Hayes then picked up the Green Knights next two goals. Hayes scored at 12:48 off a feed from Henriette Ostergaard, and then added a power-play marker at the 19:36 mark with Anderson and Koppang assisting.

St. Norbert salted the game away with an unassisted empty-net goal by Andrea Senne with 1:22 remaining in regulation time.

The Green Knights outshot the Cobbers 25-19, and cashed in on their lone power-play opportunity. Kaley Gibson made 19 saves to post the shutout, the fifth of her career. Madison Denny made 21 saves for the Cobbers, who were 0-for-5 on the power play.

St. Norbert faces the College of St. Benedict at 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Cloud, Minn.
