Green Knights Advance to MWC Championship in Shootout

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - St. Norbert College advanced to the championship match of the Midwest Conference Men's Soccer Tournament with a shootout win over Carroll University in a semifinal game at Farwell Field.

The match officially ended in a 0-0 tie, the fourth consecutive match St. Norbert has posted a shutout. The Green Knights then triumphed 4-3 in a shootout that lasted seven rounds, two rounds longer than a regulation shootout. St. Norbert advances to play MWC champion Lake Forest College in the tournament title match at Noon Saturday at Farwell Field.

The Pioneers (13-4-2) outshot the Green Knights (9-7-3) by a 22-4 margin in regulation time and the two 10-minute overtime sessions.

St. Norbert was the first shooter, with the Green Knights taking a 1-0 lead when Andrew Hull scored to open the tiebreaker. The Green Knights were stopped in the second round before the Pioneers' Liam Michener tied it 1-1.

Kirill Vasilenko then gave St. Norbert a 2-1 lead in the third round after he connected and Carroll missed. The Green Knights missed an opportunity to take a two-goal lead when they missed in the fourth round, with Fancisco Sajuan tying it 2-2 for Carroll.

Trevor Scales scored for St. Norbert in the fifth round, with Carroll's Mark Gore tying it with his penalty kick. Both St. Norbert and Carroll missed its shots in the sixth round. Brandon Buhr connected in the seventh round for St. Norbert, and Scott Faul turned away Carroll's Andrew Jend in the decisive moment.

Faul finished with seven saves during the match, while Carroll's Tomek Miaskowski made one save for Carroll.
