DE PERE - St. Norbert College gave nationally ranked UW-Whitewater all it could handle in the championship game of the St. Norbert Tip-Off Tournament but fell to the Warhawks 72-61 on Connie Tilley Court at Schuldes Sports Center.

The Warhawks (2-0), last year's NCAA Division III tournament runner-up, are ranked No. 4 in the D3hoops.com Top 25. St. Norbert (1-1) lost for the first time in the tournament, which has spanned 14 games over seven years.

Whitewater built a 19-point lead in the first half, taking a 34-15 advantage with 3 minutes 6 seconds remaining in the first half. The Green Knights had gone 9:14 without a field goal during the Warhawks' 22-6 run.

St. Norbert trailed 36-22 at halftime and fell behind by three more points on Katie Burton's 3-pointer to open the second half. The Green Knights went on a quick 9-0 run to cut the deficit to 39-31 with 16:23 left on a Heidi Van Sistine basket.

The Green Knights hung around that margin until closing to within 52-47 with 7:19 to go on a Morgan Heim jumper. St. Norbert had the ball down five on its next possession but missed two shots and would get no closer the rest of the way.

Van Sistine and Brianna Byrne led St. Norbert with 12 points apiece, and both were named to the all-tournament team. Heim and Lana Tomashek had 10 points each. St. Norbert shot 40.8 percent (20-for-49) from the floor.

Whitewater was paced by tournament MVP Amy Mandrell's 16 points and nine rebounds. Burton added 15 points and Abbie Reeves 14 and both were also named all-tournament. Whitewater shot 40.7 percent (22-for-54) from the field.
