Green Knights Swept by No. 25 Washington & Jefferson

LEESBURG, Fla. - St. Norbert College opened its season by being swept at the hands of 25th-ranked Washington and Jefferson College by scores of 12-4 and 5-4 at Pat Thomas Stadium.

The Green Knights (0-2) had a chance to salvage a split, but the Presidents (5-2) scored three times in the top of the seventh on four hits to steal the win.

St. Norbert trailed 2-0 in the nightcap until Troy Rottier stroked a three-run double with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Derek Klegin added an RBI single in the fifth inning.

Jake McMahon took the hard-luck loss in his collegiate debut, allowing eight hits with one walk and six strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings. Klegin finished 2-for-3, while Nick Pierre was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

In the opener, the Green Knights trailed 4-3 in the third inning before Washington and Jefferson scored three in the third to pull away. Pierre, Rottier and Travis Mason all had two hits apiece in the opener.

Mason had an RBI single in the first inning, and Pierre had a two-run single in the third inning. Chad Ljunggren added an RBI single in the fourth inning.

Brett Nohr took the loss for St. Norbert, allowing 12 hits in five-plus innings pitched.
