St. Norbert Wins Two to Finish St. Louis Trip 3-0

ST. LOUIS - St. Norbert College won a pair of non-conference games to finish its three-game trip here unblemished at 3-0. The Green Knights topped Grinnell College 6-1 and then defeated Washington University by the same score at Kelly Field.

The Green Knights (8-4), winners of eight of their last nine games, took a 1-0 lead on Grinnell in the fourth inning when Carlos Rodriguez's grounder scored Alex Larsen. St. Norbert went ahead 2-0 in the seventh on an RBI single by Larsen.

Grinnell (7-8) countered with a run of its own in the top of the eighth, but the Green Knights broke the game open with four runs in their half of the inning. Chad Ljunggren and Travis Mason singled with one out, and Nick Pierre walked with two outs to load the bases. Larsen followed with a grand slam to left field to salt the game away.

Larsen finished the game 3-for-5 with two runs scored and five RBIs. Pierre was 2-for-4 for the Green Knights, who had 10 hits. Brett Nohr allowed three hits in the complete-game win, walking one and striking out five.

Against Washington (7-12), St. Norbert snapped a 1-1 tie with four runs in the fourth inning. Derek Klegin had an RBI single, and Jose Godinez later scored on an RBI grounder by Ljunggren. Two runs scored with two outs on a Washington error.

Pierre had an RBI single in the first inning, while Godinez had an RBI double in the seventh.

Pierre, Godinez and Klegin all had two hits apiece for St. Norbert. Kevin Nutley went eight innings to get the win for St. Norbert, allowing six hits with three walks and four strikeouts.
