St. Norbert Wins Series Opener With Lawrence

DE PERE - St. Norbert College held a commanding shots-on-goal advantage of 57-17 en route to a 3-1 win over Lawrence University in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at Cornerstone Community Center.

The Green Knights (9-0-1, 6-0-1 NCHA), ranked No. 1 in the USCHO.com and D3hockey.com polls, ran their unbeaten streak to 21 games (20-0-1). Lawrence (5-5-1, 4-3) lost for the 36th time in 37 all-time outings against St. Norbert.

Following a scoreless first period, St. Norbert's Tyler Zepeda scored unassisted on a breakaway at 5:11 of the second period, cleanly beating Lawrence goaltender Mattias Soderqvist for his third goal of the season.

St. Norbert had a 5-on-3 power-play opportunity early in the third period, and cashed in for a 2-0 lead when Erik Cooper scored his seventh goal of the season just 59 seconds into the stanza. The Green Knights put the game out of reach when Michael Hill cleaned up a loose puck out front at the 16:31 mark of the third period for his seventh goal of the year.

Lawrence scored a consolation goal with 1:01 remaining on a marker by Ryan Rumble.

Soderqvist made 54 saves for the Vikings, while David Jacobson made 16 stops for the Green Knights. St. Norbert was 1-for-6 on the power play, while Lawrence was 0-for-4.
