St. Norbert Claims MWC Tournament Berth

GREEN BAY - The St. Norbert College women's tennis team claimed a berth in the Midwest Conference Team Championship Tournament with a 6-3 win over Beloit College at Western Racquet.

The Green Knights won two doubles matches and then claimed four singles contests to improve to 5-4 overall and 3-1 in the MWC. The team tournament will be held October 17 in Rockford, Ill.

Kelly Van Handel and Lauren Post beat Beloit's Hannah Perwin and Erika Zevin in a thrilling match at No. 1 doubles. Van Handel and Post claimed a 9-8 decision, winning the tiebreaker 8-6. Allyson Yankle and Callie Schroeder topped Julia Win and Lily Rubenstein at No. 2 doubles 8-1 for the other Green Knights win.

In singles action, Post topped Zevin 6-3, 6-3 for the victory at No. 2. Yankle defeated Win 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3, while Schroeder topped Rubenstein 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 at No. 4. Anna Reardon defeated Emily Maroney 6-1, 6-1 to claim the win at No. 6.

St. Norbert closes out the regular season with a triangular with UW-La Crosse and UW-Whitewater in Whitewater on Saturday, Oct. 11.
