Green Knights Open MWC Action With Two Wins

GREEN BAY - St. Norbert College began Midwest Conference play with a pair of dual meet wins at Four Seasons Tennis Club. The Green Knights blanked Illinois College 9-0 before eking past Knox College 5-4.

The Green Knights (4-6, 2-0 MWC) had to rally against the Prairie Fire after dropping two of the three singles matches. Robert Quinlan and Ben Vande Zande earned St. Norbert's lone doubles win with an 8-1 triumph over Ganesh Uppalapu and Zair Zahid at No. 3.

Leon Gilman and Casey Brice earned crucial three-set wins for the Green Knights. Gilman beat Ashwin Kushwaha 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 at No. 3 singles, while Brice earned a 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 win over Rohail Kahn at No. 4. Quinlan blanked Uppalapu 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5, and Vande Zande shutout Zahid 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.

Against Illinois College, the No. 1 doubles team of Nate Gosz and Travis Buechel blanked Anthony Samples and T.J. Lawal 8-0. Quinlan and Gilman beat Brandon Hollenbeck and DeVaughn Green 8-0 at No. 2 doubles.

Brice beat Samples 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, followed by Kahlo Vue's 6-1, 6-1 win over Lawal. Sam Gullick beat Hollenbeck 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3, and Zach Simonet defeated Green 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4.
