St. Norbert Gets Split on Final Day at Central Tournament

PELLA, Iowa - St. Norbert College split its final two games at the Central College Tournament, beating the College of St. Scholastica 8-6 before losing to 19th-ranked Central 6-4.

The Green Knights (5-9) rallied from a 3-0 deficit by scoring six runs in the third inning against St. Scholastica. Codi Jenshak and Leigh Grall drove in a pair of runs on bases-loaded walks. Jessica DeMeuse followed with a two-run double for a 4-3 lead. Two runs later scored on an error to cap off the rally.

St. Norbert took an 8-3 lead with two runs in the fifth inning, scoring on a two-run single by Emily Laufer. The Saints cut the deficit to 8-6 with three runs in the sixth but would get no closer.

The Green Knights had seven hits, with DeMeuse and Amy McBride hitting doubles. Morgan Rusch earned the win, allowing eight hits and four earned runs in five innings pitched.

Against Central, the Dutch took a 3-0 lead before St. Norbert eventually tied the game 4-4 in the fifth inning. The Green Knights got their first run home in the fourth inning on a bunt single by DeMeuse. St. Norbert then tied the game with its three-run fifth, getting a run on a single by Jenshak and a two-run triple from Leigh Grall.

Central snapped the tie on a two-run double by Brooke Brommel in the sixth inning.

Jenshak and Grall both went 2-for-4 for the Green Knights, who had seven hits. Francesca Marrese took the loss, allowing four hits and three runs in 2 1/3 innings of relief.
