St. Norbert Splits on First Day at Sugar Loaf Classic

WINONA, Minn. - St. Norbert College split its two matches on the first day of the St. Mary's University Sugar Loaf Classic to open the 2015 season at Gostomski Fieldhouse.

St. Norbert lost its opener to UW-La Crosse 25-14, 25-15, 25-22 before bouncing back to sweep Lakeland College 25-13, 25-21, 25-14. The win over Lakeland was the first collegiate coaching win for first-year coach B.J. Bryant.

The Green Knights hit .212 against Lakeland, getting 35 kills in 99 attempts against 14 errors. Halie Ferry had 15 kills to lead the offense, while Hannah Johnshoy added seven kills. Kaitlin Delahaut had 17 assists and 10 digs. Aubree Antosch had a team-high 13 digs, while Ferry added eight digs.

Against La Crosse, the Green Knights struggled offensively with 27 kills and 30 errors in 119 attempts. Ferry and Johnshoy had six kills apiece. Delahaut had 14 assists, while Antosch had 12 digs.

St. Norbert will finish out the Sugar Loaf Classic on Saturday by facing Wisconsin Lutheran College at 10 a.m. and Luther College at 2 p.m.
