Green Knights Blitz Marian as Vanden Avond Nears Century Mark

FOND DU LAC - St. Norbert College won its second consecutive game behind another strong offensive showing, defeating Marian University 6-2 in a non-conference game at Smith Field.

Katie Vanden Avond scored four goals in the win, moving her career total to 99. It marked the first time in her career Vanden Avond has scored four goals in consecutive games, and she will be come the 21st player in NCAA Division III history to score 100 career goals with her next marker.

St. Norbert (2-1) took a lead it would never relinquish just 1 minute 22 seconds into the game when Vanden Avond scored off a deflection. The Green Knights went into halftime ahead 2-0 after Vanden Avond scored again in the 30th minute.

Vanden Avond scored again in the 49th minute for a natural hat trick when she stripped a defender in the Marian defensive end and scored.

Marian's Jessica Retzlaff cut the deficit to 3-1 with a goal at 73:34, but Monica Stephans converted a penalty kick at 74:45 to put St. Norbert back ahead by three goals. Retzlaff scored again to cut the deficit to 4-2 with a goal at 78:11.

Vanden Avond scored her fourth goal with 10 minutes remaining to achieve her sixth career four-goal game, included in 19 career hat trick. Aimee Conley scored at 82:49 with Stephans and Vanden Avond assisting to close out the scoring.

St. Norbert outshot Marian 25-14. Maddie Plinska made five saves for the Green Knights, while Alysha Kallas made six stops for Marian.
